What's New in Client Interviews and Intake

We're rolling out a significant update to Divorcepath's client interview and intake system. For those who have been using our intake tools since launch, you'll notice a refreshed experience with custom labels, updated styling, and a more streamlined workflow for collecting and importing client information. For those who haven't tried it yet, there's never been a better time to start.

What's Changed

The client interview system has been a core part of Divorcepath since the early days of the platform. It lets you send structured questionnaires to clients, collect their financial and personal information, and import their responses directly into Divorcepath calculations. With this update, we've made meaningful improvements across the board:

Custom Labels

You can now customize the labels and headings throughout the interview questionnaire. If your firm uses specific terminology or wants to match the language in your retainer agreements, you can adjust question labels to fit your practice. This is especially useful for firms that serve clients in both official languages or that have specialized practice areas within family law.

Updated Styling

The client-facing interview interface has been refreshed with a cleaner, more modern design. The layout is more intuitive, with clearer section breaks, improved progress indicators, and better mobile responsiveness. Clients completing the interview on a phone or tablet will find the experience significantly smoother.

Streamlined Workflow

We've simplified the process of creating, sending, and managing interviews. The interview setup flow is faster, with smarter defaults and fewer clicks to get a questionnaire out the door. The review and import process has also been tightened — you can now review client responses and import data into a calculation with less back-and-forth.

Better Calculation Integration

The connection between interview responses and Divorcepath calculations is now tighter. Imported data maps more precisely to calculation fields, and the system provides clearer feedback about which fields were populated and which may need manual attention. This reduces the gap between receiving a completed interview and having a working calculation.

How Client Interviews Work

For those new to the feature, here's how the intake system works:

Create and Send

From your Divorcepath Professional dashboard, select a client file and click "Send Interview." Choose from pre-built interview templates tailored to common family law scenarios — support applications, property division, variation proceedings — or create a custom questionnaire. Enter your client's email address and send.

Client Completes the Interview

Your client receives an email with a link to their interview. The questionnaire is presented as a clean, guided form that works on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Clients can save their progress and return later — they don't need to complete everything in one sitting.

The interface uses plain language and includes contextual help text explaining what each question means and why it matters. This is particularly helpful for clients who are unfamiliar with legal terminology or unsure what financial information is relevant.

Review and Import

Once the client submits their responses, you receive a notification. You can review all answers in a structured summary view, flag any items that need clarification, and send follow-up questions if needed. When you're satisfied, a single click imports the data into a Divorcepath calculation.

White-Label Branding

Client Interviews supports white-label customization so the experience looks like it comes from your firm. You can configure your firm's logo and colour scheme, custom welcome and completion messages, your firm's contact information in the header and footer, and a custom subdomain or email sender name on supported plans.

Why It Matters

Save Time on Data Entry

The average family law financial statement requires entering dozens of data points. With Client Interviews, the client enters their own information, and the system formats and imports it for you. Firms using the feature consistently report saving 30 to 60 minutes per new client file on initial data entry alone.

Reduce Errors

Manual data entry is a leading source of errors in legal calculations. By importing data directly from the client's responses, you eliminate the transcription step entirely. The updated field mapping in this release makes that import even more reliable.

Improve Client Experience

Clients can complete the interview at their own pace, on their own device, at a time that works for them. The refreshed styling and clearer instructions in this update make the process even more approachable for clients who may be dealing with the stress of separation.

Get Organized Faster

Instead of piecing together information from emails, phone notes, and scanned documents, you have all the client's financial information in one structured location from the start of the file. This lets you run preliminary calculations and provide initial advice faster.

Privacy and Security

Client Interviews uses the same encryption and security infrastructure as the rest of the Divorcepath platform. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on Canadian servers. Interview links are unique, time-limited, and accessible only by the intended recipient.

Getting Started

The updated Client Interviews are available now for Divorcepath Professional subscribers. If you're already using interviews, you'll see the new styling and features automatically. To send your first interview, navigate to a client file in your dashboard and click "Send Interview."
